Samsung expects Galaxy S25 to outsell Galaxy S24

The Galaxy S24 series has been a huge commercial success, with the company reporting sales growth compared to last year’s phones. Samsung seems to have even higher expectations for the upcoming Galaxy S25 series.

According to a report from Korean news site The Elec, Samsung aims to ship around 37 million Galaxy S25 units next year, up slightly from the expected 35 million Galaxy S24 units this year. This suggests the company has bigger expectations for its upcoming phones.

Samsung said in its Q2 2024 financial report that the Galaxy S24 series achieved double-digit growth in sales and revenue compared to the Galaxy S23 series. Another sign of this improvement comes from a report by Counterpoint Research, which noted that the Galaxy S24 was one of the ten best-selling phones in Q3 2024. This is the first time since 2018 that a Galaxy flagship model has made the list in Q3, indicating sustainability in the long-term sales growth momentum.

The question is whether Samsung can achieve more impressive results with the Galaxy S25 series. Samsung said that the success of the Galaxy S24 series is due to the Galaxy AI features, but with competitors in the industry also offering various AI features, plus the decline in sales of foldable products despite integrating Galaxy AI, surpassing the Galaxy S24 series will not be easy.

As for foldable phones, The Elec reports that Samsung plans to produce 7 million foldable devices in 2025, including current models. Meanwhile, the company plans to ship 6 million devices this year, including previous models. Samsung is said to produce 3 million Galaxy Z Flip7, 900,000 Z Flip FE, and 2 million Galaxy Z Fold7.

It’s worth noting that the production run of the Galaxy Z Flip FE — the budget foldable — is just under 1 million units, suggesting it could be a limited release rather than a large-scale launch on par with the main Galaxy foldables.
